La Belle au Bois dormant
1990 • Aquarelle et gouache sur carton • Ballet de Petr Illitch TCHAÏKOVSKI sur un livret de Charles PERRAULTfdowndown. Extrusions: 60–70% show partial or major resorption on MRI. Sequestrations: even higher resorption rate. This is why many large hernias shrink over months. 3️⃣ Scar stabilization The annulus does not regenerate like new tissue. It heals with fibrotic scar tissue. Scar ≠ original elastic annulus But scar = mechanically stable in most people. Does the disc regain height? Usually: Some hydration returns Full original height rarely returns Degeneration continues as part of aging Important: Disc degeneration on MRI does not correlate strongly with pain. Many pain-free people have “degenerated” discs. So biologically speaking: ❌ It does not fully regenerate. ❌ It does not “go back perfectly.” ✅ It can resorb and become asymptomatic. ✅ It can become stable and pain-free long term. Functional outcome is what matters The spine adapts. Stability is provided mostly by: Multifidus Transverse abdominis Erector spinae Glutes Motor control patterns A well-rehabilitated spine can be: Just as strong More resilient More load-tolerant than before the injury. Long-term outlook (if you rehab properly) 80–90% recover without surgery Most return to normal activity Many return to heavy lifting The disc does not need to be perfect for you to be strong. If you want a deeper answer: Was it a protrusion, extrusion, or sequestration on MRI? c'est un cartilage? Oui — mais pas exactement. Un disque intervertébral n’est pas un “cartilage pur” comme celui du genou.. Extrusions: 60–70% show partial or major resorption on MRI. Sequestrations: even higher resorption rate. Les Contes d’Hoffmann
1991 • Mixte • Rebuilding a parisian deserted factory inside the Châtelet. The picture is inside the théâtre du Châtelet, the illusion is perfect. Set design for the opera « Les Contes d’Hoffmann » ( The Tales of Hoffmann) by Offenbach at the @theatrechatelet in 1991 Dir. Alfredo Arias The story is about recounting failed loves. They decide to “rehearse” his tales on stage. Thus why Roberto chooses to reconstruct the place of the actual rehearsal. Reprise après @operadelyon et @grandtheatregeneve “With his accomplice Arias, Roberto Platé updates only the works of the past, without ever distorting them, with originality. Is this not the best process for keeping classical performances alive?” M.Binet : “The booklet of Contes d’Hoffmann places the action in a tavern, then in a physicist’s study, and finally in Venice.” Roberto : “I was thinking while I was attending rehearsals of the opera, which were taking place in a disused suburban factory. And there I decided to transport the factory onto the stage of the Châtelet. I found a way to resolve the transposition by situating the playing space for the actors within the area defined by the pillars at the center.”
